"Ponderables"

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, Radhiallahu anhu narrates: "You generally say that Abu Hurairah reports much more from the Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam, but Allah Ta’ala knows the Truth very well. My brothers among the Muhajirin would remain occupied with their business in the markets; and the Ansar are engaged in the affairs of their property. But I, being a poor man, had no other business other than keeping myself close to the Messenger of Allah SallAllahu alaihi wasallam and filling my stomach with what is available.

One day the Prophet of Allah SallAllahu alaihi wasallam rose to address us and said in the beginning: ‘No one among you who spreads his shawl and keeps it spread till I finish will never forget what I say.’

Having heard the Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam saying so, I spread my woollen shawl till Rasulullah SallAllahu alaihi wasallam had finished his lesson. Thereafter, I gathered the shawl and embraced it; and I swear by Him who sent him SallAllahu alaihi wasallam with Truth that until this day I retain each word of his address." (Bukhari and Muslim)

Sayyiduna Anas Radhiallahu anhu reports: "Once on a very dark night, Usaid bin Hudhari and Abbad bin Bishr Radhiallahu anhuma, were talking to the Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam till late. They took leave at the dead of night. The night was so dark that there was nothing visible. Both of them had a staff in their hands.

As they proceeded, the staff of one of them gave light, enough to make the way visible.

When their ways parted the staff of the next one also produced light. Thus both of them reached their house safe and sound."

Once while walking outside Madinah the Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam saw a Jewish man who had captured a deer. Upon seeing the Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam the deer said that it was time for her to feed her young, and she would return promptly if only the Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam would arrange for her freedom for a little while. The Messenger SallAllahu alaihi wasallam of Allah requested the Jewish man for some time on behalf of the deer and accepted responsibility if she did not return, and so the man released her. He was mocking the Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam but was amazed when the deer returned as promised. Whereupon he immediately accepted Islam.

The following is a story told by Sh Hamza Yusuf, who says that it is based on a Hadith…and Allah knows best.

There was a man living on an island for 500 years devoting his entire time to worshipping Allah Ta’ala and being in total obedience to Him. When he stood before Allah Ta’ala for his reckoning he said that he wanted to enter Jannah by his Amal as he had never disobeyed Allah once.

But Allah Ta’ala said no, you can only enter my Jannah by my Mercy, whereupon the man replied no no….I want to enter by my Amal. So Allah Ta’ala sent the angel responsible for the gift of vision for one eye, saying the reckoning for the sight of one eye is equal to 500 years of worshipping without disobedience. The man was asked if he wanted to continue with his account, instead he quickly said….no…let me enter Jannah by Your Mercy!!!!!!!!!!

Abu Jahl once came to the Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam with stones in his hand and said: "I will accept you as a Prophet if you can tell me what is in my hand." The Prohpet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam turned to him and said: "Why don’t you ask what is in your hand who is the Prophet of Allah?" Abu Jahl put his hand to his ears and the stones started reciting Laa ilha illallah!!!!!!!!

So stubborn was he in denying the truth that instead of submitting to this manifest sign, he accused the Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wasallam of black magic and threw away the stones.
