Assalamu alaikum Maida and Asiyah,
salawatulLah ala syedina wa habibana wa malja’na Muhammad, wa ala alihi was sahbihi wa salam, over and over and over, Ameen.
I am often reminded of the story of Bilqis when she comes to Sulaiyman Alaihis Salaam lifting her dress thinking she was walking on water, as sometimes after they have renewed the marble inside Masjid Nabawi it glistens so much that it truly does seem like water, SubhanAllah.
I took the photo of the area above the door as that is where the pigeons roost and as I was taking this, one appeared from inside the recessed section, but I was too slow and instead of it clearly peering over that white ledge it blends in with the grey architectural feature. While walking from Jannatul Baqi to Haram there was a pure white pigeon amongst the usual blue grey ones! It is the first time I have seen one here! I wanted to quickly take a photo of it, but there were too many policemen around. I still feel hesitant taking using the camera as the new law allowing it has been passed, but it may take awhile for it to be fully accepted with many getting upset if they see you taking photos, especially now that there are not many people about, where you can hide a little! The cleaners are constantly working around the clock having to clean up after the pigeons. I don’t think the architects when designing the Masjid ever thought how all the intricate little details would be an ideal resting place for the birds; both inside and out!
I took the minaret as in August I sat at this very place with some wonderful sisters who were studying here! Assalamu alaikum to you if you happen to be reading this!

Assalamu alaikum Maida,
your comment releases so much about what the earth and the dust and the very air have encoded in them, SubhanAllah. Looking at maps the scholars have deduced about the possible position of various aspects of how this City of Light was during the time of our Nabi SallAllahu alaihi wasallam, it seems the extension they are now working on at this eastern side was on the outskirts of the city then, with this area corresponding to what could have been near to their ablution area. Later, the huge fortress wall seems to have been approximately here too, and Allah the Almighty knows best.
The smaller decorated row of blue domes in the above photo, (where you see the man in the blue cherry picker who was cleaning the other day when I took this shot), was the approximate position where Abu Talha has is famous garden and well, where our Beloved Nabi SallAllahu alaihi wasallam would often go and where water was carried from for his household, SubhanAllah. Such Mubarak soil to bear witness!

as the arab poet said “the dust (soil) of madina is musk!”.
Such Mubarak soil to bear witness indeed!

Assalaamu ‘alaiykum, morning meanderings are often full of smiles. Thank-you. The discussion b/w you and Maida about the soil of Medinah prompted me to dig up (no pun intended) my photos of that same construction site. I am continously taken back by the constant expansion and construction that Medinah is witness to… in attempts to, we hope grant the pilgrim much comfort. …I was reminded to of the advice of one of our teachers who had advised a friend to walk barefoot in Medinah to allow her to connect to the city better. I stubbornly attempted to follow that advice. Alhamdulillah.
Oh yeah, I had heard about this new law while I was in Jeddah…do you know the specifics of it?

Assalamu alaikum Dear Iffat,
many walk around Haram barefooted, SubhanAllah, I do not know how they do it in the summer as the marble is sizzling, even sitting on it with a prayer mat is a test! But yes, so much Barakah.
I read about the new photography law in Arab News, within the past few months. I would do a search for the article for you, but they block on line access for us in the Kingdom. Insha’Allah give it a try: www.arabnews.com, in the meantime I will endeavour to find the information through some other sources here and then will let you know. But it is like so many “laws” here, the implementation, or understanding of them is a totally different story!
Enjoy all your pictures from here…may they keep the heart burning, yearning and seeking an eternal nearness to Allah Ta’ala and His Habib SallAllahu alaihi wasallam. Ameen.
Wassalamu alaikum
