at the market [camels] — almiskeenah @ 8:36 pm

Camel conversations at the local market the other day!

When I first saw this camel she had her long neck fully stretched out along the ground in front of her, but as soon as she heard me approach she stood…..and then

came closer, beginning her life story….

 inquiring if I understood…..

content and satisifed that she has spoken her mind….

opposite was a mother and her new baby….

curious about my intentions….

Previous post elaborates more on these magnificent creatures.

All good is from Allah Ta’ala whereas mistakes are from this humble speck. May Allah Ta’ala Bless all readers, bringing you all closer to Him and His Rasul SallAllahu alaihi wasallam. Ameen.

  3. Assalamu alaikum,
Dear Ukhti Farah, so “lovable”, yes. I wonder if part of the attraction is due to the connection our Beloved Rasulullah SallAllahu alaihi wassalam and his Sahabah RadhiAllahu anhum had with them…yet on the other hand I have had a fascination for them long before I was brought into the glorious fort of Islam. The connection has certainly increased after reading all the references, and actually seeing them in this environment where our Deen began.
The other amazing feature of going to where they are gathered in groups is the sound! SubhanAllah! They seem to communicate with each with such low belly vocals, and with their masters! One man was tapping a huge camel on the legs to make it sit…the sight alone was intriguing, but also the exchange of sounds between the two! Sometimes while out driving in the desert you see a man training a camel. It must be an art, as the ones you can hire to ride on are so passive and gentle and respond to the slightest command.
Ukhti Saimah, I have included a few sites that may help you with understanding how to ride a camel. The ones I have been on have a plastic barrel tied to the side of their saddle which acts as a step to get up, while a handle is attached at the front of the saddle to help pull yourself up. The true experts seem to mount and dismount with far more flair.
A submission has been made to the “authorities” here to establish a trekking company with associated activities of living in tents, experiences Bedouin customs, traveling between Madinah, Makkah and Badr, and the like, but nothing has eventuated as yet. Insha’Allah your Du’a may have an impact!
The last link is to an amazing site about one woman who spends months camel trekking across some of the famous deserts.

  5. Assalamu alaikum Brother Ikramuddin, maybe you could elaborate on your camel ride and tell of your experiences for Sister Saimah. Riding these “ships of the desert” is so akin to being on water the way they rhythmically flow along, I find it comical. Getting on and off brings such laughter, Alhumdulillah! I would love to venture on a long trek to truly experience the way Allah Ta’ala has created them.

  7. Wa-alaikum As-salaam dearest Ukhti Noor,
Yes, part of the attraction is because of the stories related of Rasul Allah sallallahu alaihi wasallam. It is also natural- simply by looking at the smiling creatures. A lot thanks to my parents-especially my late father [may Allah ta’ala grant him the breeze and coolness of jannahtul firdous, amin] who would always take us out during the holidays where we’d be near to various creatures. My mother still reminds us to look after the pets properly. The cat waits at her door in the mornings and even joins her when she prays:-)

Will look through the links, insha Allah :-) Jazak Allah Khair for sharing.

I do remember the laughter of pilgrims when they first mount the camels :-)
    wasalaam,
    farah
