Assalamu alaikum dear sister Tasnim, Insha'Allah try to be content with all that Allah Ta'ala blesses you with....we so often take the simplest of things for granted...good health, the air we breathe, the water we drink, the clothes we wear, the roof over our head....so many do not have these basics. These are reasons to be content...and once we are happy with what is in the here and now, Insha'Allah Allah Ta'ala will bestow the "extras". Alhumdulillah...such happiness in being Muslim!! This is a profound happiness! Enjoy it! Love it!
Dear brother Irving, your presence pierces the blogoshere! Your words pierce hearts , may Allah Ta'ala continually bless you and yours and the generosity of your love. Ameen.
Wassalamu alaikum

Your posts are alwasys so powerful and moving, and this one is also sadly too true. Alhamdulillah, tha there are people like you to make the passage from this illusion of the world easier with your wisdom and love :)

May Allah bless you for your goodness in thought and deed.

Assalamu alaikum,
Ameen Thumma Ameen to all Du’a. Alhumdulillah that we are from the Ummah of the best of creation SallAllahu alaihi wasallam having concerns for each other’s welfare in this Dunya and the Akhirah. Dear sister Tasnim, your words come from the heart, may answers soon come from the All-Hearing, Ameen.
Dear NQ, sadly it is not just the concept of the shopping centres becoming such a focus and distraction, but the whole image they demand from the habitual frequenters to adopt, along with the social pressure to belong to that “set” is disturbing.
And dear brother Ikramuddin, Alhumdulillah that you have seen our sacred places in earlier times, before so many of these “futuristic features”. JazakumuLlahu khairan for the reminder for us to aim for our “landmark” location in Jannah, a felicitous way of dealing with this topic. We all await another of your “glowing” anecdotes, Insha’Allah. :)
Wassalamu alaikum

Assalamualaikum, Subhanallah! As you said sister "The changes have been incredibly rapid over the past decade or so, and what we see now is happening at an even far greater rate of acceleration." I couldn't agree with you more. I remember visiting Mecca weekly and Medina quite often in the mid 80's with my parents (we lived in Jeddah for a year), then returning in the late 90's and then having been invited again 2 years ago. Subhanallah the changes from one time period to another are unbelievable! It leaves you with a sense of helplessness to "see" all that is happening, but herein lies a key point you mentioned... we have to learn to "see" with the eye of our heart, Basserah. This reminds me of another anecdote from my looking for the 'glowing' ppl episodes, but we'll save that for another time, inshallah.
May Allah azawajal have Mercy on us all, may He give us the insight to do those things which will construct our 'landmarks' in Jannah and not only in this world, ameen.

"corruption appeared on land and in the seas due to what people earned with their hands". Corruption stems from the fundamental mistake of mixing necessity and luxury. Shopping areas are needed within the limit of necessity, as was the case during the time of Rasulullah salla Allah alihi wasallam. The market of those days was known as Manakha and was relatively outside residential area. Knowing that the Haram fence encloses the entire inner Madina at that time which was approximately 300,400 m2, the Manakha market was less than 3000 m2. Today, shopping has become an objective in itself. People got used to going out to spend time in a shopping center. Far from the tradition of Rasulullah that markets are the places of devils. So far from it that some people might laugh at the concept.
It is valid today and tomorrow as it was valid since he salla Allah alihi wasallam uttered it.
